The West Point Museum, located on Thayer Road, considered being the oldest and largest diversified public military collection in the Western Hemisphere, featuring exhibits that reveal the aspects of military history and encompasses the history of West Point and the United States Military Academy, the evolution of warfare, and the development of the American Armed Forces. The Wood’s Monument, which is an obelisk monument in honor of Colonel Eleazer Derby Wood (1783–1814), one of the earliest graduates of the U.S. Military Academy, who became the 17th graduate of the academy, in 1806, well known among the army officer corps as an engineer and artillery officer. Originally located near the site of present day Trophy Point, the monument was moved to the West Point’s cemetery in 1885, where it stands today.
